The name of our company describes very well our role in the value chain and our expertise –mixing. This applies not only to material but also to people!
PRE
The role of Premix's business is in the early stages of a product's value chain. Premix customers manufacture plastic products from the compounds and concentrates made by Premix. We make materials perform by adding the desired functionality to plastics already at the compounding stage. We simplify our customer's manufacturing process by bringing the functionality to the plastics early in the value chain.
MIX
Mixing raw materials to make materials perform. We optimize the performance of the product our customer manufactures by mixing fillers, additives, and the base polymer(s). We add functionality, such as different levels of electrical conductivity for different purposes or antimicrobial properties, and improve the properties of the material (for example, heat resistance, UV resistance, flowability/viscosity, colors, and additives). It is about optimizing the performance of the end-product by utilizing the full potential of the raw materials.
For Premix, optimized properties mean consistency and high-quality dispersion, good processability, good mechanical properties, recyclability, and maximizing key properties. Sensible compromises between the different properties are made when needed. Our expertise in the art of compounding is in understanding the whole nine yards of it, from feeding problematic fillers to the right temperature profiles of different materials to granulation, drying, homogenization, and packaging processes.
Premix owners and board
Premix is a family-owned company whose history dates back to the 1980s. Antti Kiikka and his children Hanna Ristola and Tuomas Kiikka represent continuity at the Premix board.
The Premix Board consists of a good mix of professionals outside the industry and family members. Kalle Reponen has been the Chairman of the Board from April 2017 to December 2024, following Antti Kiikka, the Premix founder who served as Chairman of the Board for decades. Since January 2025 the Board has been chaired by Hanna Ristola. The other Board members are Antti Kiikka, Kalle Reponen, Mika Toikka, Thomas Luther, and Tuomas Kiikka – Antti, Hanna, and Tuomas representing the family, and Kalle, Mika, and Thomas bringing a professional industry perspective from the outside.
We are strongly developing our operations and our industry. We believe that a successful company is based on inspired people who feel good about their work. We guarantee this by making sure that our people are well led and empowered. Thus, we put a strong emphasis on our leadership processes and coaching skillfulness.
Becoming truly international
Today, the vast majority of the specialty compounds Premix produces are exported from our factory in Finland to our customers in over 40 countries. We have local teams supporting our customers in Finland, the United States, and China.
To achieve our strategic goal of being the best service company in our industry, we are opening a new, state-of-the-art plastic compound manufacturing plant in Gastonia, North Carolina, in 2025. With the new plant and local team, we will improve our global supply capability and better serve our customers with plants and services on two continents, doubling our current production capacity.
In 2025, we will have two modern plastic compound manufacturing plants designed to cater to the most demanding needs of our customers in the Healthcare, Energy, and Material and component handling market segments, as well as offer toll compounding services for high-quality requirement materials.
